For over 14 years, I have never paid for my children's wardrobe. I get asked a lot if I shop at the sale? Of course! Tar Heel Kids Consignors offer the best selection for my children, even my teenagers! Tar Heel Kids is like my seasonal Black Friday. If you are new to Tar Heel Kids, or maybe attended one sale, there is still time to recycle and cash in.
Here is what I mean. I shop for 3 boys and 1 girl and never pay for their season’s wardrobe. I think that children’s consignment sales are the most ingenious events ever organized! The first season there was some cost involved because I had to buy supplies to tag my items that I wanted to sale, but ever since I have literally rented all the equipment, toys, shoes, and clothes my children have owned - and sometimes I make a little extra! Are you smiling yet? Ready to take the plunge?
If you are considering participating this season, there is still time! I am sure that after last spring and summer, you boxed up all the clothes that don't fit and stored them in the attic or garage. Now is the time to register and start organizing your clothes by size and gender, shoes, toys, etc.
I always do an initial pull of everything I think I am going to take to the sale - and after tagging to another run through the house. By this time, I am recycling everything I can get my hands on. If you are looking for a pricing guide, check out this quick reference.
Before I shop, I always take an inventory of what each child needs for the season. I am careful to note what I already have on hand from number of shorts, jeans to jammies. Once I have my list, I am ready to shop.

Now, it’s important to note that today’s children’s consignment sales are not like garage sales. All clothing moves through an inspection process so what you have to choose from is either gently used or in some cases new with tags. Our group of volunteers do their best each and every season to inspect all the clothes that come through our sale. We'd love to have you join and see behind the scenes. Take a look at our volunteer program .
While I am shopping, I stick to my list so as not to over buy. I think my youngest son always makes out like a bandit because he has had 2 brothers that have come before him, so he has a big selection each season. Even though my daughter is 13 and my oldest son is 15, I can still buy all the items they need for the season. Who can pass up saving up to 70% off retail?
How do I never spend a dime on their season’s wardrobe?
My sales from my consignment have always equalled what I spend.
I recommend moms who are expecting start before the baby even gets here!
